The Blood Red Moon Prophesies!

Do you know that the blood red moon is very significant in prophetic scriptures in the Bible? It's one of the signs before the "Day of the Lord". In Joel and Acts we have 2 scriptures that clearly speak of the moon being turned into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord.

Joel 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
Acts 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come.

Jesus said that in this world we will always have tribulation. Jesus talked about these in Matthew 24, and the apostle John talks about them in Revelation. Many Christians believe that they will be raptured before all these tribulations. Jesus did not promise to keep us from tribulation, but He said He has overcome the world, and we need to trust in Him. I believe the great tribulation will be a time of testing for the Christians as well, in order to perfect our faith.

Why did Jesus say the following? He said in Matthew 10:34 “ Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.” It is because He knows that there will be those who do not want to follow “His Way” of peace. True peace can only come by recognizing Him as Savior and King, and by praying to God that His Kingdom will come on this earth as it is in Heaven. Only when His Heavenly Kingdom comes to this earth will we have peace on this earth.
We need to pray, “Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” But there are those on the earth who have their own agenda and what to set up their own earthly kingdoms. There are those who want to rule the world! This will lead to war until God comes to establish His Kingdom of peace here on this earth!. If we try and fight on God’s side for Israel or any other country, we will be in danger of dying by the sword. We are to pray for peace, not fight for peace.

In the event that we see much tribulation coming to this world in our generation, we can remember that we can still have the peace that passes understanding, when we submit to Jesus Christ and ask Him to be the Lord of our lives.

There are 2 “moon prophecies” of great significance in the Bible – the blood red moon and the darkened moon. They are both depicted in the Book of Revelation.

The first sign is the blood red moon in the sixth seal. It is accompanied by the sun which is as black as sackcloth and by stars falling to the earth like unripe figs falling from a tree, when shaken by a great wind.

Rev 6:12-14 And I saw when He opened the sixth seal. And behold, a great earthquake occurred. And the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair; and the moon became as blood; 13 and the stars of the heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree being shaken by a great wind casts its unripe figs. 14 And the heaven departed like a scroll being rolled up. And every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

The second sign of the moon is the darkened moon in the judgment of the fourth trumpet. A third of the sun and moon and stars are struck and a third of all light is lost.

Rev 8:12-13 And the fourth angel trumpeted. And the third part of the sun, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars, was struck, that the third part of them might be darkened, and the third part of the day might not appear; and in the same way the night. 13 And I saw, and I heard one angel flying in mid-heaven, saying with a great voice, Woe! Woe! Woe to those dwelling on the earth, from the rest of the voices of the trumpet of the three angels being about to trumpet!

Jesus also spoke of the sun and moon being darkened and the moon not giving it’s light, and the stars from heaven falling, and the powers of heaven shaking.
Mat 24:29-31 And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken. 30 And then the sign of the Son of Man shall appear in the heavens. And then all the tribes of the earth shall mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of the heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

This sounds like the first sign in Revelation 6:12, except that Jesus did not say there that the moon would be like blood but he said it would not give it’s light. Not giving it’s light could also mean that it is blood red and thus not able to give it’s light. If we compare the other parts of the two verses (Matt. 24:29 and Rev. 6:12) they are the same – darkening of the sun and the stars falling from heaven in an unprecedented way. If we take Rev. 6:12 as the time Jesus spoke about, then the tribulation will come before Rev. 6:12 and Jesus coming in the clouds will come after Rev. 6:12.

Why is this significant for us? For one thing, it shows us that we need to be prepared to go through some tribulation. For another thing it tells us what signs we can look for in the tribulation as described in the seven seals, and seven trumpets. Are you ready?
You should get ready because Jesus warned about it. He also said that the earth would be like the days of Noah when people were not ready and not believing and great destruction came. Before the Lord comes there will be tribulation and great destruction.

In the old testament we also see the signs of the moon appearing in prophecy. Notice what is occurring in these verses.

The sign of the blushing moon in Isaiah
Isa 24:21-23 And it shall be in that day, Jehovah shall punish the army of the high place on high, and on the kings of the land on the land. 22 And they will be gathered, a gathering of prisoners in a dungeon. And they shall be shut up in a prison; and after many days they will be visited. 23 Then the moon shall blush, and the sun shall be ashamed, when Jehovah of Hosts shall reign in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem; and before His elders is His glory.

Notice here also that Jesus shall reign in Mt. Zion and in Jerusalem after the moon blushes it red color. Jesus said he would come in the clouds after the sun is darkened. Are you anxious for Jesus to come again? But first get ready for Jesus to punish the army of the high places on high. Isn’t that frightening! God is an awesome God, and He is just and willing to forgive all who call on His name.  Those who are punished are the people who don't want to even call on His Name.

Look at the signs accompanying the blood red moon in Joel.
Joel 2:28 - 32 And it shall be afterward, I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh. And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; your old men shall dream dreams; your young men shall see visions. 29 And also I will pour out My Spirit on the slaves and on the slave women in those days. 30 And I will show wonders in the heavens, and in the earth, blood and fire and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of Jehovah. 32 And it shall be, whoever shall call on the name of Jehovah shall be saved; for salvation shall be in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, as Jehovah has said, and in the remnant whom Jehovah shall call.

God’s Spirit is now being poured out and will be poured out on the earth in mighty ways when the time comes for the tribulation before the moon turns to blood red. These things already started in the Book of ACTS and are a sign of the age of the Holy Spirit's outpouring which is still going on today.  Aren’t you excited about that too? And notice that after the blood red moon sign, salvation shall be in Mt. Zion and in Jerusalem. It seems that salvation will come there first – before anywhere else! The primary focus of God’s plan to bring salvation to the whole earth is that it must start in Zion – that was God’s original plan before the Israelites went into captivity!

Notice what the disciples asked Jesus before He went up to heaven.
Act 1:6 – 8 Then, indeed, these coming together, they asked Him, saying, Lord, do You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? 7 And He said to them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put in His own authority. 8 But you shall receive power, the Holy Spirit coming upon you. And you shall be witnesses to Me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

The disciples knew that the Kingdom of Israel had to be restored first, and so they asked Jesus when it would be. Later Peter was preaching on the day of Pentecost and he had the revelation from the Holy Spirit and quoted from the Book of Joel. Here we see that Joel  was prophesying of the days ever since the day of Pentecost up until now and until Jesus comes again.

Act 2:17-20 "And it shall be in the last days, says God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh. And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. 18 And in those days I will pour out My Spirit upon My slaves and My slave women, and they shall prophesy. 19 And I will give wonders in the heaven above, and miracles on the earth below, blood and fire and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious Day of the Lord. 21 And it shall be that everyone who shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

In other words Joel’s prophecy is being fulfilled right now and we are in a time of the pouring out of God’s Spirit since the days of Pentecost, and we are in the time before the blood red moon when tribulation is being poured out on the earth. We should also not be surprised when the tribulation gets worse towards the end as it does in the Book of Revelation. And we should expect that the pouring out of God’s Spirit will increase but so will deceptions by false prophets. That is why we need to check out everything with God’s Word and not follow after those who are promoting new experiences as the way to experience God’s power and His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit dwells in us by faith and we can move all mountains by faith (not by experiences.) “All mountains” is everything that is opposed to God’s Word – all these can be cast into the sea – anything that comes against the Word of God and against God’s will can be cast into the sea and we have this authority in the name of Jesus Christ.

What are some of the things to look for in the tribulation before the blood red moon? Read Revelations chapter 6. The third seal talks about an economic crisis – sounds like America almost had one recently. It’s shaping up to a “one world order” very quickly. Get prepared for the economy to go down soon and for a “one world order” to be instituted shortly after. One in four people will die in the fourth seal. In the sixth seal there will be great signs from heaven with a blood red moon and darkened sun. There will be stars falling from heaven and a great earthquake such as we have never seen.

Rev 6:15 -17 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every freeman, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains. 16 And they said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him sitting on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; 17 for the great day of His wrath has come, and who will be able to stand?

By this time we will be praying that Jesus comes very quickly. Jesus said He would come after the darkening of the moon in Matt. 24. So let us not be deceived but be filled with the Spirit until the darkening of the sun and moon.

Look at some more scriptures that seem to describe the second sign of the moon which is described in Rev. 8:12 – the darkening of the sun and moon – the time of the 4th trumpet. This comes before the last 3 trumpets which are called the 3 woes in the Book of Revelation.

O.T. prophesies of the darkening of the sun and the darkening of the moon.

Joel 2:9-11 They shall rush on the city; they shall run on the wall; they shall climb up on the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief. 10 The earth shall quake before them, the heavens shall shake. The sun and moon shall grow dark, and the stars shall gather in their light. 11 And Jehovah shall give His voice before His army, for His camp is very great. For he who does His Word is strong. For the day of Jehovah is very great and terrifying, and who can endure it?

Before verse 9 we have a mighty army of destruction causing the earth to quake. But then it says the Lord will give His voice before His army and “His camp” is very great. It’s as though the Lord will be leading His own army – but where will they be? Where will “His camp” be? In Mt. Zion?

Joel 3:14-17 Multitudes, multitudes in valley of decision! For the day of Jehovah is near in the valley of decision. 15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall gather in their light. 16 And Jehovah roars from Zion, and He gives His voice from Jerusalem. And the heavens and the earth quake. But Jehovah is a refuge for His people and a fortress to the sons of Israel. 17 And you shall know that I am Jehovah your God dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain. And Jerusalem shall be a holy thing, and aliens shall no more pass through her.

Here it seems that at the time of the sun and moon turning dark, that the Lord will already be ruling in Mt. Zion and He will be a refuge for His people in Zion already.
This is what I believe to be the case. So therefore it seems that the Lord comes for His people in the clouds after the blood red moon (6th seal-Rev. 6:12), and perhaps after the darkening of the moon (4th trumpet in Rev. 8:12) because the Bible indicates that He is in His Holy place with His people during or shortly after the time of the 4th trumpet. If we compare the scriptures in Rev. 8 to those of Joel 3:14-17 and Isaiah 24:21-23. It seems God will be dwelling in Mt. Zion with His people at that time already and will be a fortress to the sons of Israel – to those who claim Zion to be their spiritual home. No aliens will be there – only those who recognize Jesus as their king.

However, the important thing is to be prepared for the tribulation to come and know what to expect. Joel and Peter spoke of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit before all these events take place.  Therefore the most important thing is not to focus on the tribulation to come but to focus on being filled with the Spirit, and then we will be ready for all these disasters to come- blood and fire and vapor of smoke. (Acts 2:19)

Are we being led by God and filled with the Holy Spirit?  If so we will be even be able to survive an economic meltdown that will bring about a one world order.  We will have strong faith, when we are being filled with the Spirit daily.   This is the most important thing. This is what will be tested. Matthew 6:33 says if we put God’s kingdom first, He will supply all our needs. We will be prepared to help the poor and still believe that God will supply our needs when the great and terrible Day of Jehovah comes.

We need the faith of Habakkuk and the firm resolution that when hard times come we will still praise God because He will provide our needs and He will make us walk on high places during those times.

Hab 3:17-19 Though the fig tree shall not blossom, and fruit is not on the vines; the work of the olive fails, and the fields make no food; the flock is cut off from the fold, and no herd is in the stalls, 18 yet I will exult in Jehovah; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation. 19 Jehovah the Lord is my might, and He sets my feet like hinds' feet, and He will make me to walk on my high places. To the chief singer, on my stringed instruments.

The Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians, how to be continuously filled with God's Spirit.  Eph 5:18  And do not be drunk with wine, in which is excess, but be filled with the Spirit, 19  speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20  always giving thanks for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21  submitting yourselves to one another in the fear of God.

Conclusion:
Some people think it doesn’t matter what we believe about the end times. They are satisfied to agree to disagree about end time doctrine, because the church is so divided. I believe that the devil has deceived the church so much about the end times that he will have a much greater advantage during the end times than we would like to think possible.

It does matter what you believe, because many Christians will be going though difficult times financially, and won’t understand what is going on. I think many pastors will be confused and not know what to teach from the Bible or where to find the answers during these difficult times. That is because they thought it really didn’t matter what they believed about the end times. But they will soon find out that it does matter what you believe, because the Bible warns about these things but they didn’t heed them. Many who got caught up in materialism and the prosperity doctrine will learn some painful lessons at this time.

Luke 21:36 Then be watchful at every time, begging that you be counted worthy to escape all these things, the things being about to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.

For non-believers: God loves you and wants your attention. He wants your life to be lived for Him. All that you have to do is to believe that God, the creator of the universe, sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to this earth to die for your sins and to give you eternal life! (John 3:16) And then give your life to the One Lord Jesus Christ,  to be your Lord, who knows everything about you. He knows what you need before you ask, and He wants to give you the best. If you are going your own way, that is not the way to eternal life. I suggest you read the book of Matthew and John in the Bible. Then read the Book of Acts! (You can read these online at Bible Gateway). Jesus sent the Holy Spirit as spoken of in Acts chapters 1 - 2, and the Holy Spirit is the One who convicts us, comforts us and guides us. I am asking the Holy Spirit to illuminate your understanding on how you can become a child of God and be filled with His Holy Spirit, and to have the knowledge of what great things He has in store for you!
